Documentation

Installing Aurora Curator, writing naming schemes, and automating renames from the command line.

Installation

Grab the installer for your platform from the Download section, then follow the notes below.

Windows

Run the .exe or .msi installer. Windows 10 or later is required. Because the installer is not yet code-signed, SmartScreen may show an “unrecognized app” warning—choose More info → Run anyway.

macOS

Open the Apple Silicon .dmg and drag Aurora Curator into Applications. Until the build is notarized, right-click the app, choose Open, and confirm once.

Linux

Use .deb for Debian/Ubuntu, .rpm for Fedora/RHEL, or make the portable .AppImage executable with chmod +x.

Naming scheme syntax

The naming scheme is fully editable. The default is {show name} - {season number}x{episode number} - {episode name}, and every field is a clickable button in the editor.

A bare name such as {n} is a direct lookup. More complex tokens run as Rhai expressions, such as {n.to_upper()}. Human-readable names with spaces, including {show name}, work without scripting knowledge.

Use / to create safe subfolders relative to the source file, for example {show name}/Season {season number}/{episode number} - {episode name}.

Field reference

TV episodes

FieldShortDescription
{show name}{n}Series title
{season number}{season}Season number
{episode number}{episode}Episode number
{episode name}{t}Episode title
—{s00e00}Zero-padded S01E02 form

Movies and release detail

FieldShortDescription
{movie name}—Movie title
{year}—Release year

Probed and computed fields

{width}, {height}, {fps}, {duration}, and {file size} come from the media container. {crc32}, {md5}, and {sha1} are populated on demand by Hash Files.

Scripting helpers

Helpers include .to_upper(), .to_lower(), .pad(width), .sort_name(), .sort_initial(), .acronym(), .validate_file_name(), and separator-normalization helpers.

Command-line usage

Passing -rename runs a batch without opening the application window.

aurora-curator -rename \
  --format "{show name} - {season number}x{episode number} - {episode name}" \
--db tmdb --action move --conflict skip ~/Downloads/show/
FlagDescription
--formatRequired naming scheme.
--db tmdb|tvmaze|omdbOptional online metadata resolution using credentials saved in the app.
--action move|copy|symlink|testChoose the filesystem action; test prints the plan without touching disk.
--conflict skip|auto-number|overrideChoose how existing targets are handled.
<file-or-folder>...Files and recursively expanded folders.

Metadata sources

TVmaze

TV only, completely free, and requires no account or API token.

TMDB

The default for TV and movies. Save a free API Read Access Token in Fetch Data Settings.

OMDb

An alternative source for television and movies. Save a free OMDb key in Fetch Data Settings.

TV and movie sources are selected independently, so mixed batches can use the best source for each media type.
